IKEM Academy 2026: “Climate Spark – Igniting Multi-level Action to Achieve the Energy Transition”
31 August to 3 September | Berlin
At a time when geopolitical instability, economic uncertainty, and competing crises risk slowing climate momentum, the IKEM Academy brings together an international community of people committed to building a climate-positive future. Over four inspiring days, participants from around the world exchange ideas, form new collaborations, and explore the solutions, innovations, and narratives that can accelerate the energy transition.
More than just a conference, the Academy is a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded changemakers passionate about creating a greener, fairer, and more resilient world, and to become part of a growing international climate network that extends far beyond the Academy itself.
Under this year’s theme, “Climate Spark: Igniting Multi-Level Action to Achieve the Energy Transition,” participants will explore how policy, innovation, social engagement, and creativity can work together to reignite ambition and momentum for climate action.
Through participatory workshops, expert talks, co-creative exercises, and site visits across Berlin and Brandenburg, participants will:
- Apply design-thinking principles to reimagine and build the sustainable city of tomorrow
- Visit Feldheim, Germany’s pioneering renewable energy village, and explore community-powered energy systems firsthand
- Develop and present their own climate litigation case
- Discover how social innovation and citizen engagement can accelerate the energy transition, including through energy cooperatives and community energy projects
- Explore the next phase of renewable energy expansion, from grid access and AI to data centres and new energy demand
- Learn how decentralised renewable systems can strengthen resilience in times of geopolitical instability and crisis
- Engage with breakthrough technologies shaping the future climate-neutral energy system
- Explore the links between climate action, equality, diversity, and societal transformation
- Discover how storytelling, media, and positive climate narratives – from science communication to solarpunk futures – can inspire action, imagination, and hope
